In Memoriam

FF Head

The Forever Friends Pet Memorial program has been created by Ottawa Therapy Dogs (OTD) to offer solace to pet owners through a legacy of support to OTD teams. Every dog’s memory will live on through the ongoing work of therapy dog teams who visit hospitals, retirement homes, palliative care centres, schools and other facilities to provide joy and support to people of all ages.

Team Member Profiles

Thumbnail photo of Azor Azor – Azor is a very common dog name in Poland, similar to “Fido” or “Rover”. A poster dog for mutts and mongrels everywhere, Azor looks like “Joe-average” dog, but he is very special. [more...]
Thumbnail photo of Azor Bear – A purebred standard poodle, Barrett (Bear) was born in 2003 in Toronto, and he joined our family here in Ottawa when he was six-month’s old. From the moment he came and sat on my lap at the breeder’s, I knew Bear was meant to be a part of our lives. [more...]
Thumbnail photo of Azor Boomer –Boomer is a five year old German Rottie that we’ve had since he was a tiny little pup. When we first got Boomer, we noticed there was something different about him. He was always quick to pickup on commands and he was docile and gentle with everyone that he met, whether it be adults or children. Because of his demeanour, we decided to put Boomer into training classes at Best Friends. [more...]
Thumbnail photo of Bro Brutus – Brutus, a very handsome Saint-Bernard, is the perfect Gentle Giant.  A rescue group was in desperate need of foster parents, called us and we agreed with the only condition that he must get along with Ben, our recently "given" Bernese Mountain Dog who was trying to find his way. [more...]
Thumbnail photo of Bro Buddy – Buddy is my sweet little Sheltie who has been sharing his warm and fuzzy personality with residents at various facilities around Ottawa for the past seven years.  Even as a puppy Buddy was calmer and gentler than any other dog I have had, and I knew he had a calling when he cuddled into the arms of my elderly mother-in-law. [more...]
Thumbnail photo of Caleb Caleb – Caleb is a beautiful blue merle, Shetland Sheepdog. He was just an eight-week-old puppy when he came to live with me. From the beginning he’s always been a happy, energetic and goofy little dog. [more...]
Thumbnail photo of Bro Cobber – “Looks just like a teddy bear” are the most common words used to describe our Australian Labradoodle. Cobber, which means ‘buddy’ in Ozzie slang, is a 35-pound ball of energy, cuteness, and fun, yet he is able to sense the amount of energy that is suitable for the occasion. [more...]
Thumbnail photo of Gogo Gogo – Gogo is a miniature dachshund who has visited the Palliative Care unit of the Elizabeth Bruyère Health Centre in Ottawa for 2 ½ years. We attend weekly, and make ourselves available for bedside visits to patients and their families. [more...]

Jake - Hi, Hi, Hi! My name is Jake.  I am 100% Standard Poodle and 100% love!  My birthday is on April 17th, 2007.  Can you help me figure out how old I am?  It keeps changing every year!!!    My adopted sister’s name is Lola.  Can you tell I copied some of her profile?  Can you find her profile on this site? [more...]

Thumbnail photo of Shadow Jazz – Jazz is a wavy-haired Portuguese water dog. Her coat is grey/black, sometimes called ‘blue’. I adopted her when she was almost five from a breeder in Smiths Falls. She was retiring from breeding activities after achieving champion status as a show dog and birthing several litters. [more...]
Thumbnail photo of Kasco Kasco – Kasco came North in the summer of the year he turned three. Until then, he had been a working dog, running his maiden races out of his birth state, Iowa, and then continuing his “career” at the tracks in Orlando. [more...]
Thumbnail photo of Kasco KC – KC, aka CH Carannaugh's KC of Fallowfield FDJ, is the latest dog in a long line (five generations) of Irish Setters who have been therapy dogs working with me. As the human half of this dog therapy team, I have been heavily involved in dogs—as a breeder (under the Fallowfield prefix), handler, trainer and judge.  [more...]
Thumbnail photo of Kasco Kuma (also called Kumasan, which means “little bear” in Japanese) is a 6-year-old Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever who likes nothing better than placing her head on a warm lap. She loves the special attention she gets at Elmwood Lodge, a housing facility for women of all ages.  She knows when it’s time to go for our visits: I pull out her bandana, special leash and my badge and she runs up to me, tail wagging, eager to go!   [more...]
Thumbnail photo of Kasco Lady Byng – Lady Byng, a four-year-old Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, began her volunteer life with Ottawa Therapy Dogs in the summer of 2009. As the Duck Toller is one of the few all-Canadian breeds in the world, she was named after a very Canadian symbol: the Lady Byng trophy. Awarded annually by the NHL to the league’s most gentlemanly player, it is the only NHL trophy named for a female.  [more...]
Thumbnail photo of Kasco Lola - Hi!!! My name is Lola.  I am 50% Standard Poodle, 50% Airedale and 100% huggable!  My birthday is on March 3rd, 2005.  Can you help me figure out how old I am?  It keeps changing every year!!!  I am getting older, but if you saw me play with a ball you would think I was a BIG puppy. (I love tennis balls!!!)  I have an adopted brother, Jake.  [more...]
Thumbnail photo of Kasco Marni – Marni was born in November of the year 2000 — my “Millennium Baby”. We were introduced to Ottawa Therapy Dogs by a neighbour who had been involved for a number of years with her dog. She commented that Marni had the temperament suited to therapy work. However, what convinced me to take up therapy dog work was that it provides an opportunity to do volunteer work with my dog, instead of having to leave her at home.  [more...]

Maya - Hi, I'm Maya and I turned 8 in 2011. When I was 6 I was so lucky to be adopted by Sandra. Once I settled into my new home, Sandra took me to school and there we learned lots of fun things. I learned how to jump through hoops, run through a tunnel, walk right beside Sandra without pulling on my leash and coming when called no matter what distractions were around. Of course the best part of school were the treats!   [more...]

Thumbnail photo of Kasco Moogly – Moogly is a 3-year-old male Golden Retriever with a beautiful dark red coat, an immense heart and unlimited zest for life. Armin and Chantale were lucky enough to be chosen by Moogly as his adoptive human parents at the SPCA of Western Quebec. Although he weighed more than 70 lbs at the time, he decided to sit on Chantale's lap after our very first walk together, as if choosing us as his forever family, or so we keep telling ourselves!  [more...]
Paddington Paddington our gentle giant, is named after the bear in the English children’s story. Like the lost teddy bear in the story, Paddington was found hungry and abandoned, under a street light in a village near here. He was about 3 months old and, with his fluffy puppy coat, his soft brown eyes and his very big paws, he looked like a teddy bear. [more...]
Thumbnail photo of Shadow Taffy – Taffy is not a show girl but, like all Irish Setters, she is pretty — or so everyone tells her!   Her qualifications for a career as a pet therapy dog are her deep serious brown eyes, and her brains.  And she is passionate about her work. Put on her scarf, and she is on the job. She stands a little taller, her head is held a little higher, her step a bit more deliberate but mostly those eyes become focused in a very human way. [more...]
